Panthalassa

What can I say

about the Atlantic Ocean

that isn’t already obvious?

It’s ancient and angry

with cobalt gray waves

that crash with purpose

into sand as if the water

itself has been wronged

and the body

collectively seeks

revenge on the Earth

for separating it

from its sister oceans

so many millions

of years ago.

The Atlantic Ocean

was born a bastard child

of Pangaea.

And now its watery

arms reach out

and slam against

every remnant of the late

super-continent to force

land to know pain.
